In 2012 I found myself thrice – divorced, immersed in a non-healthy relationship with alcohol and miserable. I began to cut drama from my life and started reconnecting with the writings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Pema Chödrön. Many of the perspectives I present come from a place somewhere West of Buddhism.
Over the past few years as I began researching topics of my own interest for school while having my mind blown by Lit Theory – my perspective on life shifted. And I began to feel like the world was constantly whispering “you MUST find a passion, you HAVE to achieve more, you SHOULD look and act this way.” I don’t lead companies, nor climb mountains, nor profess to be an expert on ANYTHING.
You see, I am an ordinary mother of a certain age living in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. I run a tiny company from home while finishing up a degree in English Literature and side hustle when necessary. My passions are simple. Success to me is stringing together as many childlike moments of awe as I can. Ordinary. Simple. There must be more like me out there who are seeking a happy life within their meager means and current zip code. I hope to find more like me.
I will more than likely talk about my family , so here is a small reference list of characters:
- Brock – my stoic partner
- Corey – eldest son
- Nick – son
- Brandi – daughter
- Francesca – daughter
- Diamond- daughter
- Hannah – daughter
- Zipporah – daughter
- Henry – son
- Dominic- Hannah’s boyfriend who lives with us. I consider him a son.
- Dogs – Daisy, the chug – Bodhi, the pug – Roscoe, the boxer mix
- Cats – Margarita, Martini, Spike, Scooter, Aspen and assorted others
I hope to begin a community of radically ordinary people who have found sukha in their own backyard.
May you be happy, May you be free of suffering.
- Di
